Welcome Back! First Day of Classes (Tuesday September 5th)
Welcome to a New Year at St. Mary!
SEPTEMBER START-UP PROCEDURE REMINDERS
Students in Grade 9 will proceed into the Atrium area (center) of the school on the first day of school and find their name on a list posted in front of the library.
Beside each name there will be a homeroom number assigned to each student, ex., “John Smith, 09A-121”. This means that “John Smith’s” homeroom is 9A. Students will then find their homeroom number identified on a row of chairs in the cafeteria. Please sit in the section assigned to you. You will be sitting with your first period/homeroom class. There you will be addressed by our school Principal, our Chaplain, Guidance staff, and others. After the presentations are over, you will proceed to your first period class with your teacher and classmates. In first period, you will receive your timetable, agenda, lock, locker assignment, etc.
Students in Grade 10-12 will proceed to a list posted on a wall in various sections of the school. There will be a homeroom number (ex, 10A, 11A, etc) and a classroom number (ex, 109, 210, P04, etc) beside each student name. Please proceed directly to the classroom number assigned to you. This will be your first period class. In first period you will be given your timetable, locker assignment, etc.
TIMETABLE CHANGE REQUESTS - A REMINDER
Only Grade 11 and 12 students can make changes to their electives. Changes to electives can only be requested and made within the first 5 days of each new semester. Students in Grade 9 and 10 can only request to change course levels within the first three weeks of any new semester. ALL students must follow the procedures for requesting a change (obtain a Course Change Request form from Guidance, complete and submit the form AND follow your old timetable UNTIL you are called down to Guidance to pick up a new timetable)
A final note to parents and students: We have found that our practice of having students complete a Course Change Request form when requesting a timetable change has been the most efficient way of dealing with a high volume of requests. We request that you honour our procedure and exercise patience as we work through each request. Please note that requests made by Grade 12 students will be handled first, and it is our regret that not all requests can be satisfied.
Please visit Guidance: Course Levels and Calendars for more information about courses available and key dates for timetable change requests
Guidance wishes you a wonderful start to a successful school year!
