In Memory of Pope Francis

The Durham Catholic District School Board joins the Catholic community around the world in mourning the loss of our Holy Father, Pope Francis, who inspired us all with his unwavering hope and profound love. His Holiness reminded us that in times of sorrow, we can find strength in unity and solace in our shared faith. As we reflect on his life and legacy, let us carry forward his message of compassion and care for one another.

We offer this prayer from our Durham Catholic learning community in memory of Pope Francis. 

Loving God,

With hearts both heavy with sorrow and filled with gratitude, we remember Pope Francis, your servant and our shepherd. We acknowledge the profound impact of his life, his dedication to the Church, and his tireless efforts to bring your love to all people.

We give thanks for the gift of his life, for his teachings that have illuminated our path, and for his leadership that has guided us. We are grateful for his example of humility, mercy, and compassion. His words and actions have inspired us how to love and serve one another, how to hear the cries of the poor, and how to take care of our common home, the earth.

With faith and hope, we affirm our belief in the resurrection and the promise of eternal life. May Pope Francis rest in your peace and may we all one day be united with him in the joy of your presence.
