March 22, 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians,

During this unprecedented time, we remind you that our schools remain closed from March 23 to April 5, 2020. Please do not send your child(ren) to school during this time.

As a community of faith, we encourage you to practice self-care and invite you to pray as a family and reflect on your Lenten journey. Our Durham Catholic Parent Involvement Committee created a Lenten Calendar that is available for you to use at home. We have also posted resources to help your child(ren)’s mental health during COVID-19 at https://www.dcdsb.ca/en/parents/novel-coronavirus.aspx.

As you are aware, the Ministry of Education has launched Learn at Home online resources to help students with continued learning during the next two weeks. We understanding that online learning may present challenges to some families and want to ensure you that we are working on a plan to make learning equitable to all our students. We will communicate more when information is available.

Lastly, we recognize that school closures due to COVID-19 have created new stressors for students and families. Resources to support mental health and well-being have been posted on the Board website and additional resources focused on student well-being will be shared as they become available.

We appreciate your support and cooperation as we work together to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the community. Below is a letter to parents and guardians from the Minister of Education, Stephen Lecce regarding the current situation and supports available.

We will continue to provide updates as information becomes available at https://www.dcdsb.ca/en/parents/novel-coronavirus.aspx

Yours in faith,

Tracy Barill
Director of Education
