Celebrating 50 Years of Catholic Education at Family Picnic

Posted On Wednesday June 05, 2019

On Sunday, June 2, 2019 Durham Catholic families, staff, partners and retirees gathered for a family picnic at Lakeview Park, in Oshawa to celebrate 50 years of Catholic education in Durham Region. The day was a great success with over 800 people attending.

The event started with an outdoor Mass celebrated by Rev. Keith Wallace and Deacon Pullano. A special thank you to the choir from St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School for singing and to the All Our Relations Métis Drum Circle for their welcoming song.

Secondary students volunteered their time to provide games, face painting and drawings. Students and staff also performed throughout the day on center stage. A huge thank you to our Durham Catholic Parent Involvement Committee for sponsoring the event and to the Knights of Columbus for running the popular bingo station.

Guests also enjoyed free cake, coffee and tea in the Jubilee, took pictures with the DCDSB50 sign and shopped from the vendors. A special thank you to the 50th Anniversary Picnic committee who worked for a year on all the details for this great day. Bravo to:
