EQAO Grade 9 Math (Wed June 14 & Thurs June 15)

Posted On Friday June 09, 2017

On Wednesday June 14 and Thursday June 15, our Grade 9 students will take part in the provincial Grade 9 Assessment of Mathematics created by the Education Quality Accountability Office (EQAO). This assessment in administered to all students in Grade 9 applied (MFM1P) and academic (MPM1D) mathematics courses in the Ontario publicly funded school system.

The assessment consists of two booklets, and students are given a maximum of 60 minutes to complete one booklet per day during their regular mathematics class. This year the assessment will be written over two days as outlined below.

  • Wednesday June 14: Booklet #1 (60 minutes)
  • Thursday June 15: Booklet #2 (60 minutes) and Student Questionnaire (5 minutes)

The only exceptions are students who have an IEP (Individual Education Plan) which gives them up to double the amount of time to write the EQAO.  In which case, if the student with an IEP has math class during EITHER periods 1 or 2, the student will write the EQAO during periods 1 AND 2 under the supervision of Program Support in program support room.  If the student with an IEP has math class during either 3 or 4, the student will write the EQAO during periods 3 AND 4 under the supervision of Program Support in room 131.

All students who are writing the EQAO during period 3 must take first lunch.

EQAO assessment questions are based directly on the expectations set out in the Ontario Curriculum so the students do not need to prepare in any special way. Our students will be assessed in the regular classroom and are simply encouraged to do their best and show what they know.

Individual results of this assessment are private. In September 2017, EQAO will send St. Mary the school a report on each student's achievement, and the results will be sent home at that time.
