Our Board offers a variety of summer courses and programs to meet the needs of our secondary students.
Continuing and Adult Education
Our Continuing and Adult Education program provides accelerated, eLearning and remedial summer courses for secondary students. We offer something for everyone, whether you are looking to take courses to get ahead, or want to improve your achievement standing - we can help. The courses available in the summer include:
- English as a Second Language;
- Secondary credits; and
- Head Start program for Grade 8 students transitioning to Grade 9.
Credit Recovery Summer School Courses
Duration: 2 weeks
Students must have taken the same course and level with in the previous TWO school years prior to summer school and have achieved a mark between 35% and 49% with no more than 15 class absences.
Accelerated Summer School Courses
Duration: 4 weeks
For students who wish to gain a credit in a subject they have not previously studied or who wish to upgrade a mark in a course that they have previously completed Students may only take the equivalent of ONE accelerated course in the summer, regardless of mode of delivery (in class or eLearning).
*Students who have been successful in the course previously (achieved a mark of 50% or higher) and who wish to upgrade such mark, MUST take the accelerated course (as per the Ontario Ministry of Education).
How to register for summer school course?
Registration information for Credit Recovery, Accelerated and e-Learning summer courses is available at the Durham Catholic District School Board's Continuing Education Centre.
Student must register online at Continuing Education. Once you register on line, you must then see your Guidance Counsellor to submit the confirmation form. Guidance Counsellors will approve and complete the application process with the Board's Continuing Education Centre.
Registration begins online on May 6 to June 29, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. NO walk-in registrations on the first day of summer school will be accepted.
Dates and location for summer school courses (Summer 2016)
Summer school courses are availlable at Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School in Ajax or Father Leo J. Austin Catholic Secondary School in Whitby. The courses run as follows:
- Accelerated Courses: July 5 - 28
- Credit Recovery Semester 1: July 5 - 14
- Credit Recovery Semester 2: July 18 - 28
