SAFE AND CARING SCHOOLS WEEK: September 19 - 23

To help promote a safe and caring environment, we will be celebrating our annual Safe and Caring Schools Week from September 19th to 23rd. This year, the theme is "Walking Together to Promote Safe and Healthy Catholic School Communities".
OSSLT: On October 20, 2016 all Grade 10 and other eligible students in the Durham Catholic District School Board will be provided the opportunity to participate in writing a special online trial of The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT). For the first time, the Education Quality Assessment Office (EQAO) is offering this assessment in an online format in advance of the traditional assessment date in March 2017. Providing students with the opportunity to write this online trial will not only benefit them in terms of practice and preparation, but this will also provide both EQAO and the Board an opportunity to test the online environment. TAKE OUR KIDS TO WORK DAY: On Wednesday, November 2, 2016, all grade nine students will be participating in the province-wide "TAKE OUR KIDS TO WORK" day, when you, the parent, will be taking your child to work with you. TREATIES RECOGNITION WEEK: November 6 - 12
In order to promote public education and awareness about treaties and treaty relationships, the province of Ontario has designated the first week of November as Treaties Recognition Week - November 6 to 12, 2016. Please visit our FNMI Committee page for educational resources.
NATIONAL BULLYING AWARENESS WEEK: November 14 - 18
This year, the Durham Catholic District School Board will be celebrating the November bullying prevention awareness weeks with the theme Walking Together to Promote a Positive School Community. As we work together to create safe and caring school communities we are reminded of the mercy, tenderheartedness, and loving compassion that God has shown to his people. CHRISTMAS OUTREACH: Christmas is not as much about opening presents as opening our hearts. During Advent, the St. Mary community unites to help spread the joy of the season through our annual Christmas Outreach Campaign.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH: The Durham Catholic District School Board recognizes and embraces Canada's diverse culture. During the month of February, we join with other schools and organizations across the nation to celebrate the contributions and history of Canadians whose roots are in Africa and the Caribbean. Black History Month gives our schools a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the Black community's achievements. As a faith community, Durham Catholic District School Board embraces and promotes human dignity, inclusivity, respect, diversity and justice.
